Jirisan Dulle-gil: 3 Days on Korea's Mother Mountain

Nobody Talks Enough About the Path That Goes Around Jirisan Most foreign visitors who come to Jirisan want the summit. They book the overnight hut at Jangteomok, they grind up to Cheonwangbong at 1,915 m, they tick Korea's highest mainland peak and move on. I understand the appeal — I've driven dozens of clients to those trailheads. But for the past few years the guests who come back to me glowing aren't the summit-baggers. They're the ones I dropped at a dusty village lane on the Jirisan Dulle-gil and picked up three days later, smelling of woodsmoke and wild garlic.
