The Ganghwa Peace Trail Is Not What Most Foreigners Think It Is Most visitors assume Ganghwa Island is just a day-trip history lesson — dolmens, fortress walls, a couple of temples. The Peace Trail (강화 평화나들길) challenges that assumption entirely. This is a coastal walking route that skirts the island's western and northern edges, and in places it takes you within a few hundred metres of the North Korean shoreline across the narrow straits. The tidal flats alone — some of the most biologically productive mudflats in East Asia — are worth the journey on their own terms.
